Better workflow

One thing I enjoy most in life is optimisation. I enjoy seeing things come to life in the most efficient way possible with as minimal effort as possible. Therefore, I have came up with a setup that I have enjoyed using the most and I would like to share it with you guys.

Personally, when I am indoor, I spend most of my time in front of my desk. Therefore, it would naturally be the most optimised part of my house. Though, I don’t own this house/desk anymore, I would still like to share what I have learned about it and apply it to my new desk setup.

I have specifically a very long desk as the most common activity I do on my desk is use my computer, therefore, I would like that to be permanently setup. This leaves the other side of the table for me to do other activities like: draw and solder. This leads me to my first point of organisation: Only leave out what you must.

On the other side of the table. I would always leave it empty. That is my workspace. It needs to be modular, being able to transform into different workspace in a moments’ notice. To aid with this transformation, comes the second point of organisation: boxes.

I keep every other activities in transparent boxes, so I can see what those boxes contain, and I can move them onto the desk easier. Unlike a drawer, which I can’t move onto the desk. In this case, pretty much the smaller the box the better, as it allows for smaller sub category. I rather have to move 11 boxes onto the desk then have to dig through one big box and never being able to find anything.

I also keep very big boxes on the side. Those are storage boxes, they are never really used, unless needed to. They could honestly belong to drawers, however, being a student, furnitures aren’t easy to come by.

Above is my friend’s desk, he is also very organised person, and he also employs the same kind of technique, though he doesn’t have transparent boxes like mine. He also leaves what he does the most on the table, like drawing and sewing. He solders as well, and he keeps that in his drawer. It is much harder for him to transform his work station quickly, and if he employs the same transparent box technique, he could efficienice his workflow much easier.
